Member Alert: Caller ID Fraud Attempts
It has come to our attention that some members are receiving fraudulent phone calls where a caller manipulates Caller ID data to imitate an SF Fire Credit Union number. This is a common social engineering tactic, such as has been seen at many institutions across the country. There are a few tips to keep in mind to protect yourself from such tactics.
PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
When we call you directly, we will never ask you to provide critical personal information, including:
- Social Security Numbers or Tax Identification Numbers
- Debit or Credit Card Numbers
- Other identifying information
CONTACT US IF YOU AREN’T SURE
Social engineering often relies on creating a sense of panic or urgency to get you to disclose personal information. Treat any such call—*WHETHER AUTOMATED OR LIVE*—requesting this information with skepticism, and consider contacting your financial institutions directly at a published contact number.
